Facts about Water Services, Inc.Water Services, Inc. started operation in late 1953. Initially, its operation centered only in the east and central parts of Tennessee, but has grown over its almost 50 years of existence and extended its operations throughout the eastern half of the United States and covers most states east of the Mississippi into and including the Florida Keys. In 1969 a branch operation was established in Carolina, Puerto Rico to serve the islands of the Caribbean.Water Services, Inc. (WSI) has moved into larger quarters three times. The last move was in 1971 to its present facilities which cover 6.5 acres for offices, laboratory, manufacturing and storage facilities. All the products for the United States are manufactured at this facility and shipped to the various locations. The laboratory occupies over 3,000 square feet of the factility and is thoroughly equipped with instrumentation such as spectrophotometers, atomic absorption, ion chromatography, and other laboratory equipment, and is especially set up to do routine evaluations of water analyses and scale evaluations utilizing wet chemistry as a means of determining the mineral content and the composition of water-formed deposits.Part of the activity is used for research and development,
and because of the R&D, WSI was foremost in the field of a number
of developments not only with reference to completely biodegradeable
chemical products, but also instrumentation and equipment which has
been accepted as standards in industry for a number of years. For example,
WSI was the first company to develop and market a conductivity control
device for automatically controlling the bleed on cooling towers or
other water systems. Chemical feed pumps were developed to where the
most hazardous chemicals, if required, could be used throgh these pumps
which incorporated teflon diaphragms, PVC, and other inert materials
for the liquid end, making it possible to handle such items as sulfuric
acid, caustic solutions, and any other water treatment chemicals required
from the standpoint of recirculating cooling tower water, boiler water,
and other process water systems where chemical treatment and coagulants,
etc., are required.
